About
About macadress.
A MAC vendor lookup with a live-synced IEEE registry and a response that shows its reasoning, not just a vendor name.
Every lookup here is checked against a registry synced from IEEE on a recurring schedule, and every result explains the bits behind it, not just a name. See the exact numbers on data sources and stats.
Why we built this
We wanted a MAC lookup that answered more than "which vendor": whether the address is universally assigned hardware or one your OS randomized for privacy, why it looks the way it does, and an API worth building on without a signup wall to even try it.
We wanted something a developer would reach for first: fast, honest about what it does and doesn't know, and willing to show its work instead of handing back a bare string.
What macadress does
macadress.com syncs IEEE's MA-L, MA-M, MA-S, IAB, and CID registries once a day by default; see data sources for the exact schedule and last successful sync time. Every result explains itself in plain English: what the address's administration and transmission bits mean, its IEEE 802c SLAP quadrant, its derived EUI-64 and IPv6 link-local address, and whether it looks randomized, with the reasoning shown, not just a label. The free plan includes a real API key the moment you sign up, no waiting on anyone's approval. And if you'd rather nothing leave your own network, the same binaries we run are licensed for self-hosting.
Who's behind it
macadress.com is a product of ApisOS FZE. We build developer-first tools we'd want to use ourselves: this one started because we needed exactly what it does and couldn't find it built the way we wanted, so we built it.
