Legal
Terms and conditions.
The short version: use the API within your plan's limits, don't abuse the service, and it's provided as-is. Last updated August 22, 2026.
Using the service
macadress.com provides MAC address lookups through a web interface and a JSON API, described in full on the API docs page. Web lookups are free and don't require an account. API access requires a key, free or paid, and is subject to the requests-per-minute and per-cycle quota limits listed on the pricing page for your plan.
Accounts and API keys
You're responsible for keeping your API key confidential and for all activity under it. Let us know if you believe a key has been compromised, and we'll help you rotate it.
Acceptable use
Don't attempt to circumvent rate limits or quotas, scrape the web interface in place of using the API, or use the service to build a product that redistributes the underlying IEEE registry data wholesale as a competing lookup service. Reasonable, good-faith use of the API and web tool for looking up MAC addresses is always fine.
Paid plans and billing
Paid plans are billed through Stripe on a recurring monthly basis. You can cancel or change plans at any time from your account page; changes take effect at the start of the next billing cycle. Fees already paid aren't refunded for partial cycles.
Self-hosted license
The self-hosted license, where offered, grants you the right to run the API and sync engine on your own infrastructure under the terms agreed at purchase. It's separate from, and doesn't extend, the hosted service's terms here.
Trademarks and affiliation
macadress is an independent service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by IEEE, Cisco, Wireshark, Nmap, or any hardware vendor listed in its results or downloads. Where a download file is described as compatible with a third party's format (for example, Cisco ISE's OUI import or Wireshark's manuf file), that describes the file's structure only, not an official or licensed version of that vendor's product. Product names and trademarks belong to their respective owners.
See the data sources and methodology page for what's original to this site, what's registry fact reproduced from IEEE, and what's open-source.
Disclaimer and liability
The service is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. Vendor and address data is synced from IEEE's public registries and reflects their accuracy, not ours; we don't guarantee it's complete, current, or error-free. To the extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the service.
Changes
We may update these terms as the service changes. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date at the top of this page.
